Engaging the community in ICT

Changing role of a university in the 21st century poses challenges for it to be relevant to the community both global and local. Areas like governance, environment and economy need involvement from the academe in addition to that of education. Information and Communication Technology (ICT), by its pervasive nature, is one particular field where the university can productively engage the community.

The Information and Communication Technology Center (ICTC), as part of the university, has carried out various collaborations with the and nearby provinces. Together with other government agencies, industry organizations and the College of Education, the College of Business Administration and Accountancy and the College of Arts and Social Sciences, it has involvements in the following:

  • Iligan Information and Communication Technology Council
  • CICT iSchools
  • CICT PC Recycling Project
  • GEM CLIC
  • CIDA LGSP
  • PAQTVET
  • IntelTeach
  • Worldlinks
  • Java Boot Camp
  • Job Placements

Its latest initiative is in curriculum development, the ladderized Two-Year Diploma in Electronics Technology. This allows a student to find jobs after completing each year in the program.  The key to this is the competency-based curriculum that allows the acquisition of skill sets that are required for industry and specified by certification standards.
