by CCS | Oct 03 2023

Six faculty members from MSU-IIT’s College of Computer Studies (CCS) were granted an International Certification for Fundamentals of Deep Learning after they were able to deliver a model with at least 92% accuracy during a Certification Workshop on Deep Learning.

The workshop was organized by De La Salle University in partnership with NVIDIA Corporation and the Department of Science and Technology (DOST). It was delivered via online and in-person modalities. The School of Interdisciplinary Studies (SIS) sent the Master of Data Science (MDS) coordinator and Data Science faculty member for the in-person attendance in Baguio City, while, faculty members of the Computer Science Department participated online.

Participants were Dr. Orven E. Llantos, MDS Coordinator; Assoc. Prof. Alquine Roy F. Taculin, Data Science faculty member; Asst. Prof. Malikey M. Maulana, Chairperson of the Computer Science Department; and Asst. Prof. Jennifer Joyce M. Montemayor, Liezil C. Daberao, and Asst. Prof. Haroun Al-Raschid Christopher P. Macalisang, who are Computer Science faculty members.

The workshop, conducted from September 28 to October 1, 2023, aimed to capacitate attendees with the Fundamentals of Deep Learning, which is one of the trending topics in the field of Artificial Intelligence. Participants were given access to the NVIDIA course materials worth 740 USD. All expenses related to the workshop were shouldered by DOST.

The learning was strengthened with lectures from experts coming from De La Salle University, NVIDIA, and MSU-General Santos. A certification assessment was then conducted where participants were instructed to solve a Deep Learning problem involving the classification of images using Python code.

With the said International Certification, these faculty members have enhanced their capabilities to teach and do research in the area of Deep Learning, toward influencing the future.
