CCS-Executive Council takes lead in the conduct of End-User Training Program on Tele-otology Software

In a pioneering effort at MSU-IIT, students from the College of Computer Studies’ Executive Council (CCS-EC) led the conduct of an End-user Training Program on Tele-otology Ear Screening Application. This collaborative initiative, held on November 7, 2023 at the CCS Faculty Lounge was in partnership with the Philippine Society of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery’s Silip Tenga Program, which marked a significant stride in healthcare technology.

Organized by CCS-EC researchers, namely Zaidbren Macabato, Gerald Karl Avila, and Laurence Troy Valdez, the event highlighted the pivotal role of students in shaping the digital health landscape.

Under the guidance of Dr. Daphne Goldameir Alicdag from the Department of Education 10-Iligan City Division’s Health Unit Office, nine DepEd school nurses were equipped with essential skills to effectively utilize the application for a comprehensive ear health screening. This transformative endeavor was part of the University-approved project entitled, “Adoption of Medical Makerspace Technologies in Healthcare,” led by Assoc. Prof. Lemuel Clark P. Velasco, which emphasized the University’s commitment to merging academic knowledge with practical healthcare needs.

The Training Program marked the start of more upcoming training sessions showcasing the vision of the CCS-EC for enhanced healthcare practices.

During the hands-on training, nurses Diane Christine Cornelia, Swen D. Ege, Dale Julia, Ma. Anuncita Abelardo, Karl Parangan, Samira Gaffar, Jonas Palma, Hazel Javier, Brenda S. Laping, and Lianne Florin actively engaged with the program, gaining invaluable insights.

The CCS-EC researchers, represented by Gerald Karl S. Avila (Governor), Laurence Troy S. Valdez (BUFI Associate), and Zaidbren A. Macabato (TADCOM Board Member), demonstrated the significant impact of student-driven initiatives. Their expertise, enthusiasm, and collaborative spirit bridged the gap between academia and real-world healthcare applications.

The event not only showcased the practical application of digital health technologies but also emphasized the importance of student-driven initiatives in advancing healthcare solutions. With the CCS-EC researchers at the helm, this training program stood as a testament to the transformative power of education, innovation, and collaborative partnerships.
